The people living in 12.000-year-old town Hasankeyf speak about the heritage of their region and what the planned destruction would mean for culture, ten thousands of people and nature in a 20-minute documentary by Ali Ergül called “Water’s Date of Death”.

The 12,000 year old city of Hasankeyf will be submerged if the Ilisu Dam project is completed. The director Ali Ergül shot a 20-minute documentary in 2017 called “Water’s Date of Death” in Turkish and partly in Kurdish in order to highlight the destruction of the project in the region. People from the affected region speak about the heritage of the region and what the planned destruction would mean for culture, ten thousands of people and nature. Ecological activists from Iraq have contributed to this documentary with shootings from the South Iraqi Marshlands.
