Turkish EU-Road Map and Kurdish Question will be discussed in Belgian Senate
Ararat News -Publishing (ANP) – Fiona Lorin, 12/9/2008 / Brussels – A conference "State of the advancement of the adhesion process of Turkey to the EU" will be held in the Belgian Senate (Maison des Parlementaires à Bruxelles)onthe 2nd October. The meeting is organised by Geert Lambert, Flemish senator in cooperation with the Inter-parliamentary Working group The Kurds, the Kurdish Institute in Brussels, the National Congress of Kurdistan (KNK) and the party Vrede VZW.
The conference will start with welcoming address from Geert Lambert, senator and moderator of the first part which will be focused on the current political situation in Turkey and the relation with the EU. Bart Staes from the European parliament and Prof. Dr. Dirk Rochtus, political analyst from the Leuven University, will be among the speakers. The Kurdish question in Turkey will be pointed out by Abdullah Demirbas (DTP).
The second part of the conference will be moderated by senator Lionel Vandenberghe and is dedicated to the role of the army and the deep state in Turkey (speaker Orhan Miroglu, writer and politician) and the respect of human rights of Kurds in Turkey (speaker Muharrem Erbey, Association for human rights, IHD).
The subject of the concluding debate is "Can Turkey become member of the EU?"
with the participation of the Belgian deputies Dirk Van der Maelen (sp.a), Frieda Brepoels (N-VA), Elke Tindemans (CD&V), Hilde Vautmans (Open VLD), Ahmet Dere (KNK), Dogan Ozguden (Info-Turk) and Bart Staes (Groen).
