The Kurdish region in northern Iraq near the Turkish border is being deforested and devastated during Turkish military operations. It is a criminal way to make the region uninhabitable for the local population. According to local witnesses, this inhumane strategy has been going on for 10 years.
In Afrin (Syria) it were the olive trees that Turkey uprooted. In Iraq, these include valuable plane trees and walnut trees. Expensive wood that is transported to the Turkish timber industry. Pure theft, because Turkey steals this wood from the border region of the neighboring countries.
