Payment of compensation by the Czech state to Dr. Uzunoglu
TEXT:
During the 1990s, Dr. Uzunoglu was imprisoned in the Czech Republic for 2.5 years despite being
innocent. After a 13-year fight against this injustice, he was found innocent of all criminal charges
against him in 2007.
Dr Uzunoglu is now claiming his right to compensation. However, despite various promises from
the Government Office in Prague no decision in this matter has been issued. A decision is essential
for Dr Uzunoglu to be able to pursue his right to compensation through the courts. The deadline
expires at the end of January 2009.
What steps will the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU take to ensure the proceedings
will be completed in time?
Will the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU take interest in seeing that Dr Uzunoglu
receives justice after his 14-year fight?
