A total of at least 1,420 Iraqis were killed and another 1,370 were injured in acts of terrorism and violence in August , according to casualty figures released today by UNAMI (United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq).

Thousands met for peace in Istanbul
Thousands of people protested a ban on a World Peace Day demonstration in Istanbul yesterday on the grounds that it would disrupt the traffic. Thousands of people gathered in Kadıköy to call for peace on 1 September, World Peace Day. Speaking on behalf of the rally organising committee, Dr. Deniz Mardin from the Istanbul branch of TTB, said: “Imperialist power groups are using ISIS for their own purposes.”

15 Yezidi Kurds massacred in Jaddala village
It came out that ISIS gangs committed yet another massacre in Cidalê (Jaddala), one of the villages located in the skirts of the Sinjar mountains where a number of elderly people from the Yezidi community continue to remain despite the ongoing ISIS attacks for a month now, refusing to flee the gangs and choosing to “welcome the death” in their lands.

First New University To Open In Rojava
A new university based on an alternative education model will open in Rojava, according to a report from ANHA carried by Özgür Gündem. The university – the Mesopotamian Social Sciences Academy – will be located in Qamişlo in the Cizîrê Canton of Rojava and begin to hold classes this September.

Swiss Socialist Party Federal MP Beat Jans assessed ISIS attacks on Rojava and South Kurdistan for ANF. Jans said the struggle of the Kurdish Freedom Movement had disrupted all the plans of the forces supporting ISIS for their own economic interests, adding that the European Union (EU) had been wrong to delay taking action.
