The three Kurdish politicians, Sakine Cansız, a co-founder of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), Fidan Doğan, representative of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) in Paris, and Leyla Şaylemez, member of the Kurdish youth movement, were executed in Paris on 9 January. The perpetrators and the powers behind the execution still remain unknown with French authorities having shed no light on the killings so far.
The robbery in the judge’s house reportedly took place on 23 September. The incident was first reported by daily Le Parisien which didn’t mention the judge’s name but reported that the thief, or thieves, easily broke into the judge’s house and stole his laptop computer which -it said- contained the files of the cases he is in charge of.
The daily Le Monde also provided the same information, while another daily Le Figaro on 25 September unveiled the name of the judge who was appointed to the anti-terror department some one year ago.
Le Figaro said that the judge’s computer contained the files of all the cases he ruled, claiming that he worked mainly on the Tarnac SNFC ‘sabotage’ file.
Yeni Özgür Politika daily on the other hand has reported that the judge also ruled the case on the murder of Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez in Paris.
French dailies Le Figaro, Le Monde and Le Parisien made no mention of the judge’s involvement in the case of three Kurdish politicians, while another news site Rue 89 reported that the judge ruled the Tarnac case, the case on the murder of three Kurdish women, Corsica and Islamist “terrorism” cases.
According to Yeni Özgür Politika, the robbery brings along a series of questions the French state will need to answer for it came three days after 20 September when judges in charge of the case on Paris killings rejected defense lawyers’ demand for an “investigation into the possibility that suspect Ömer Güney had been subjected to surveillance and follow-up by French administrative authorities before the incident”.
According to the statement lawyer Antoin Comte made to the press, judges Cristophe Teissier and Jeanne Duye rejected the lawyers’ demand on the grounds that “the demand is not relevant to the case”.
Yeni Özgür Politika says it is interesting that the reports on the incident make no mention of the judge’s hearing the case on the murder of three Kurdish women, noting that this one is among the major cases he is in charge of.
Kurds also have concerns over the incident, suggesting that the robbery was aimed at preventing the course of the case on the execution of Sakine, Fidan and Leyla.
