Stop the Criminalisation of the Kurdish Movement

Hoe lang gaat België Erdoğan nog steunen?
Uitnodiging persconferentie betreffende een rechtszaak tegen 33 Koerden

Datum: 19 September 2016
Plaats: tegenover het Justitiepaleis – Place Poelaert 1, 1000 Brussel
Tijd: 11u00

How much longer will Belgium support Erdoğan?
Invitation to a press conference about a Lawsuit against 33 Kurds

Date: 19th September
Place: in front of The Palace of Justice Brussels – Place Poelaert 1, 1000 Brussels
Time: 11.00

33 Kurdish activists are currently being prosecuted by Belgian courts. They are accused of participating in terrorist activities, but in reality all of them have been engaged in peaceful and democratic activities in Belgium, an EU member state.

The charges are almost entirely based on evidence produced by the Turkish state, which is also a civil party in the trial. At the same time, this state is waging a war against Kurdish people, committing crimes against humanity, and imposing a brutal repression against Turkish and non-Turkish human rights activists, journalists, lawyers, politicians and in fact anyone who criticizes the AKP government and its president.

Despite public outrage, this legal case is still going on and there will be a hearing on the 19th of September 2016.

If the public is aware that Erdogan is becoming more and more dictatorial towards the Kurds, why does the Belgian Federal Prosecution follow him in this matter?

We invite you to be present at a press conference that will be held during the hearing on 19 September. Some of the accused will be present, as well as prominent people who support them.

We consider this trial is an open and direct attack on our common civil and democratic rights, such as freedom of speech and the right of association. What is at stake in this trial goes far beyond the Kurdish community and the Kurdish question. A conviction of these Kurdish activists would be an abuse of the anti-terrorism law, and will lead to the diminishing of the fundamental rights of everyone living in Europe.
